Do you want to give something special to St. Luke’s, but aren’t sure where to start? Well, most of the staff have some things in mind! Some of them are big and some of them are small, but we believe that all of them would help our ministries. The items on this list are the sorts of things that you generally wouldn’t use operational funds on, and don’t necessarily match the scope of past capital campaigns.

If you are interested in purchasing something from this list, then please contact the Church office!

Nick’s Wish List: Polywood Adirondack Chair Set

This past year, St. Luke’s was blessed to have a scout construct our new fire pit as part of his Eagle Scout project! It has already been utilized to great affect, but it is missing something.

The fire pit is amazing, but people need somewhere to sit! The current practice is to bring camp chair or drag chairs from the Church. I would love for the Church to have permanent seating at the fire pit for four people on something that will last and is durable.

As a clergy person I am reluctant to endorse any secular product or organization. However, in addition to NASA and Duke Mayonnaise, I enthusiastically endorse Polywood outdoor furniture. The stuff is heavy, durable, won’t rot, looks nice and will likely last past any of us. The downside is that these are not cheap. A set of two chairs and an end table are currently priced at $695.00, and I am asking for two sets.

I think this would enhance our ministry, because that corner of our property is under-utilized by our congregation even though so much happens there, especially on Sunday morning. By giving people a space to gather without having to bring their own chairs would help facilitate community, and make St. Luke’s a safe place for people to gather. This would also make the space easier to use for Church gatherings that happen sporadically throughout the year. Don’t forget, this is where the Easter Oysters were roasted that the Bishop raved about!

Sue’s Wish List: A Volunteer Receptionist

Not all of our wish list items require money! Sue’s wish list item is for a volunteer to sit at a desk at the Fort Hunt Rd. entrance to greet people as they ring the bell. To be honest, I wish I thought of this first, because it would be a huge help! Being the face of St. Luke’s is an important task. For many, coming up to those doors is their first interaction with our Church. Sue and I are happy to fill this role, but it can be especially interruptive.

If you would like to help us welcome people to St. Luke’s from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm Monday through Friday, please let the office know, and we’ll get you set up right away!

Kate’s Wish List: A New Piano…or Snickers Bars

Kate Weber-Petrova is an accomplished organist and pianist, and upgrading our piano would help enhance our already wonderful music during worship. This does not mean that we would like you to donate your grandmother’s piano to St. Luke’s. Please do not drop off just any piano to St. Luke’s!!! I do not know anything about pianos, but Kate does and she wants to be discerning in choosing an instrument that will likely stay at St. Luke’s for a very long time. This is a very expensive wish list item that will easily be tens of thousands of dollars. If you are interested in making this donation, please contact Kate directly.

If you would like to support Kate’s ministry to St. Luke’s but do not have the funds to buy a Steinway piano, then I recommend providing Kate with a snicker’s bar on Sunday mornings or on Wednesdays, which tend to be particularly busy. Snickers bars typically come in the one to two dollar range.
